A Little More About Me...
My name is Cassandra Davis but you can call me Cassi. I am 33 years old and I am originally from Provo Utah. I was born 10 weeks early and had a lot of complications at birth including under developed lungs and not enough oxygen to my brain. Because of these complications I developed cerebral palsy (CP). In some people this condition affects them physically and mentally, lucky for me it just causes me to walk a little different and fall down a lot. While it also does affect me emotionally with all of the teasing and being made fun of, mentally my brain functions fine. I have had CP since I was born and will have it for the rest of my life. It would have been easy for me to use this "disability" to define me and set me back but instead I let it push me forward to accomplish the things that I want in life. Throughout my life peolpe have told me and continue to tell me that I will never amount to anything and I will never be able to have a "normal" life. Boy were they wrong!
Thanks to great family and friends I have done the complete opposite. Growing up I enjoyed many of the same activities that "normal" kids do. I played soccer and softball, I learned how to play the piano and the cello. I even competed in a number of beauty pageants and won. Even though I did get to do all of these things, sometimes I had to do it in an unconventional way. After high school I knew there was more that I wanted to do with my life so I decided to go to college. Being in and out of the hospital growing up I had worked with a lot of social workers. I decided that's what I wanted to be when I grew up and I was not going to let a disability stop me. I attended BYU Idaho and got my bachelor’s degree in social work. During my course work at BYUI, I decided there was still more I wanted to do. I decided to go on the get a master’s degree. I went to the University of Texas at Austin and got a masters in social work. In 2010 I stated working at the Salt Lake District Attorney’s office as a victim counselor working with victims of crime Until May of 2019.
In 2015 I met the love of my life Brennen Davis. Although it took me a while to convince him to date me, we eventually started dating, fell in love and were married on December 15, 2015. In July of 2018 we found out we were pregnant with a baby girl. Having cerebral palsy I never thought I would get married let alone have a baby. While pregnant I realized there was not a lot of resources for moms with cerebral palsy (or any disability) After our daughter was born i decided to create a youtube channel documenting my journey as a disabled mom. We welcomed our sweet baby girl on February 11, 2019 and named her Jaynee Lynne Davis! She has changed my life forever.
After becoming a mommy I decided to quit my job at the district attorney’s office to be a stay at home mom. I love being a stay at home mom I also enjoy working, so I began to work at home doing online counseling with the website to Betterhelp where I can make my own schedule and work from home. I also do in person and online counseling for a private practice called Inner Peace Counseling of Utah. Along with counseling i do public speaking and help people discover their purpose in life. in addition I also became a independent mascara make-up artist. I am very passionate about this make up because I feel that it doesn’t make us more beautiful, it just enhances the beauty we already have. I also like it because it is fast and easy which is what every mom needs. I feel like I have the best of both worlds where I can continue to use my clinical skills as a social worker help people discover their inner beauty as well as helping them feel beautiful on the outside, and most importantly being a mama.
I feel that God gives us all challenges and disabilities. It’s how we learn to deal with them that defines us as a person. I strongly believe that we are capable of doing anything we want in life living with the challenges we are given, as long as we at least try, have faith in ourselves and have a positive attitude.......
